Microbiology

What is barely visible to the naked eye and reveal biological activities in water can be dangerous for health, materials and entire production processes.

Lovibond®provides a range of products to identify pathogens, bacteria, germs and other microorganisms in water. Our test equipment ranges from dipslides and incubators for sample preparation to test kits for non-oxidising biocides and coliforms/E. coli bacteria. In drinking water, in cooling water, for disinfectant control, for hygiene monitoring or for a safe production environment: with our products you are well equipped, even for standardised quality requirements or normed guidelines.

Dipslides

For hygiene control: bacteria in the water

Dipslides indicate the presence of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms, as do convenient tube tests. Lovibond® offers a wide range of microbiological testing methods. Dipslides are a valuable tool for monitoring microbial growth wherever the potential can exceed 100 (102) organisms per millilitre of sample liquid. Measurements are taken using a semi-quantitative method. In this way, microbiological risks can be reliably classified and assessed in most applications. The small sample size limits the accuracy of the dipslides. However, when used correctly and incubated at a constant temperature with the Lovibond® dipslide incubator, they are excellent for indicating a trend.

  • Broad variety of dipslides to fi t best for a given situation
  • Large surface area of 11.5 cm2 for high sensitivity
  • Effective contact area of 10 cm2 for easy calculation in surface testing
  • Media produced to meet ISO 11133

Advantages

  • Flexible carriers
  • Deeper agar profile for testing surfaces & liquids
  • Early indication of bacterial proliferation
  • Results in 48 hours at the latest
  • Low cost
  • Easy to use
  • Excellent suitability for trend analysis

DI 10 Dipslide Incubator

Identify microorganisms and more

The Lovibond® DI 10 Incubator is designed for the reliable incubation of bacteriological slides, on-site, in a laboratory or even while mobile in a car or van.

When used in conjunction with dipslides, enables effective microbiological monitoring of cooling water in accordance with the many European guidelines.  The DI 10 Incubator is also part of the Lovibond® Marine Test Kit for the monitoring of other potable water contaminants, such as pseudomonas, streptococci coliforms & E.coli, see page 24 for more information.

DI 20 Incubator

Compliant with WHO guidelines

The DI 20 incubator has been designed to allow the user to reach global drinking water standards for testing, even in difficult environments.
The DI 20 incubator is a high quality, portable, lightweight incubator for microbiological testing of water using plates. It is the only incubator of its type to come with heating and cooling as standard ensuring the samples are incubated at the correct temperature no matter what ambient conditions.

Its innovative design also includes a small petri dish holder utilising our re-usable stainless steel micro plates, the dishes allow each incubator to perform up to 20 tests.
Its sleek design and intuitive pictographic buttons ensure that it can be used with little or no training and its LED lights allow users to see at a glance how far through a cycle the incubation is, and that the temperature is stable.

Legionella Test Kits

Identifying micro organisms and more

  • Conforms to regulatory guidelines
  • Weekly and monthly testing
  • Chlorine and Bromine options
  • Easy-to-use, uncompromised accuracy

Coliform/E.Coli Test Kit

Identifying micro organisms and more

The test uses a pre-dispensed dry blended reagent formulation for total coliform and E.coli. Positive samples are detected by a visible colour change. Performing the coliform test is simple. Add one sachet to 100ml of water, incubate and note the colour change. The formation of a blue colour in 24 hours or less indicates the presence of total coliforms. Positive tubes are then checked for the presence of E.coli by looking for fluorescence under UV light.

A simple, reliable technique which enables the rapid, confirmed enumeration of both total coliforms and pathogenic E.coli.

  • Early identification of bacterial contamination
  • Simple one step procedure
  • Coliforms and E.coli in one test
  • 100ml sample (regulatory reporting)
